Ryo Munakata
Ryo began his classical ballet training at the age of five at Etoile Ballet Studio under the direction of Misako Kawamura and Sergiy Savoschenko at Savoschenko Ballet Academy. At age of thirteen, he expanded his studies to include modern ballet with Yuko Takahashi. He later attended the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive in New York City on the recommendation of Hilary Cartwright, followed by full time training at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at ABT from 2014 to 2016. He also continued his development at Manhattan Youth Ballet.
Ryo was a finalist at the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson in 2018 and at the Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition in 2019. He went on to dance professionally with Minnesota Ballet, Connecticut Ballet, Ballet West, Rochester City Ballet, and New York State Ballet, where he later served as Ballet Master.
As the Artistic Director of Ballet of New York Arts Collective, Ryo is passionate about creating community centered performances that unite professional artists, local students, and live musicians to make dance accessible and inspiring for all.
